Prepare a Google Play Promo Video Without Reusing a Reel Unchanged

Prepare a Google Play promo video from real Android footage. Check the YouTube link, visibility, ads, feature graphic and muted store presentation.

A Google Play promo video needs a store-listing handoff, not just a finished video file. Prepare an accurate app demonstration, put it on YouTube under the required settings, add the correct video URL in Play Console and check how the listing presents it.

Do not borrow Apple's duration or export rules for this task. Google Play uses its own preview-video requirements. A Reel can provide source footage or an idea, but the unchanged export may be a poor explanation of the Android app.

The worked example is an illustrative language-learning app called PhraseDock. It has no real store listing, users or reported results.

Understand the ordinary preview-video handoff

For a standard store listing, Google documents adding one preview video through a YouTube video URL. Use an individual video link without extra timecode parameters, not a channel or playlist.

The video must be public or unlisted, embeddable and not age restricted. Ads must be disabled. Google's guidance warns that turning off monetization may not prevent ads when copyrighted content has monetization claims, so check the actual video and its rights rather than relying on one setting.

The store can present the preview through the listing's feature graphic. It may autoplay muted for up to the opening 30 seconds depending on the viewing conditions, and users can open the full video. That autoplay period is not a universal maximum length for the uploaded video.

This guide covers the ordinary app listing, not the separate spatial and non-spatial Android XR asset paths.

Put an Android app task before a brand introduction

PhraseDock's example task is saving a phrase from a lesson into a personal practice list, then finding it again. The preview should show that actual behavior early.

A long logo animation would postpone the reason someone might install. An iPhone recording with a different interface would also make a poor substitute for the Android experience being offered.

Prepare a sample account with ordinary, non-sensitive phrases. Record a real supported interaction, including a necessary confirmation or permission state if it affects the task. Do not create a smooth-looking imitation of a feature that the app does not perform.

For the source capture, use the mobile demo recording guide. Store presentation then needs its own review beyond the capture's basic readability.

An original edit plan for PhraseDock

This plan gives the muted opening a complete useful explanation while leaving room for more detail when someone chooses to watch the full video.

Section Actual app footage Editorial purpose
Opening A phrase inside a lesson Establish the app and learning task
Save action The user adds it to practice Show the core interaction clearly
Result The phrase appears in the practice list Complete the opening demonstration
Further explanation The user opens the saved phrase Show what the saved item lets them do
Close A current real app screen Finish without inventing a learning outcome

Overlay copy could read “Keep a phrase from today's lesson,” then “Find it in your practice list.” That is a demonstration claim. “Become fluent this month” would be a different and unsupported promise.

The video does not need every product feature. A second task belongs only if it adds meaningful information and still leaves the first task understandable.

Treat the feature graphic as a separate asset

The feature graphic and the moving demonstration have different jobs. The graphic should identify the app and prepare the visitor for the video, not display a different benefit that the recording never addresses.

For PhraseDock, it can emphasize the save-and-practice task without pretending to be a screenshot of an unavailable screen. Follow the current feature-graphic specifications in Play Console and preview its crop and play-button treatment.

Do not assume the YouTube thumbnail is the ordinary Play listing's feature graphic. Keep both assets named and reviewed so a teammate does not upload one in place of the other.

The product proof format guide helps distinguish real interface evidence from conceptual artwork. Both can be useful, but they should not impersonate each other.

Keep the social cut as its own deliverable

A social teaser may open with the situation that makes the feature relevant: a learner spots a useful phrase and wants to keep it. It can then show the same real save action.

Prolifik's Hook & Demo format can support that separate short when you supply the product recording. Its current output replaces the uploaded recording's audio with library music or silence, so do not depend on the recording's narration to explain the result.

Prolifik's app video workflows are a creation path for this social material, not a Google Play submission integration. They do not validate YouTube visibility, configure Play Console or guarantee acceptance of a listing asset.

The app install video ad guide covers the separate ad creative. A store preview, an organic teaser and a paid placement should not inherit each other's approval without checking their actual requirements.

Verify the listing path after the assets are ready

Open the YouTube video in the intended viewing state and check playback, audio rights and settings. Then inspect the actual Play listing preview and, once published through the developer's process, the public presentation.

Confirm the right language version, app build, feature graphic and video link. If a video is replaced or its visibility changes, recheck the listing rather than assuming the old handoff remains valid.

Keep the approved source and asset record so later app changes can be traced to the correct preview. The deliverable is an accurate, playable listing demonstration, not merely a file with “promo” in its name.
