You do not need to post a product recording to YouTube just to use it in a Prolifik Hook & Demo job. Reuse its owned media-library key or request an upload URL, transfer the actual file bytes and pass the returned key into the creation request.
The important distinction is between naming a file in chat and uploading it to the service. A local path in a prompt does not give a remote MCP server access to your computer. The client needs a supported way to read the file and make the required HTTP upload.
This flow avoids an unnecessary social upload. It is not a promise of confidential end-to-end storage or a security guarantee for sensitive recordings. Remove customer data and secrets before supplying media to any external production service.
Look for the recording you already uploaded
Start by listing the Prolifik media library and finding the intended video. Match it by recognizable details and ownership, not only by an ambiguous filename such as demo-final.
If the correct recording already exists, use its returned key rather than upload another copy. Keep that key with a note describing the app action and the accepted source version. It is the media reference the content job needs; a copied preview URL is not a reliable substitute.
For an original example, imagine a fictional project app recording showing one task being assigned to a team member. Use dummy names and a test workspace. Do not include browser tabs, account settings or a real client's task history.
Request the correct upload path
Prolifik has separate upload flows for content recordings and Clipper sources. For Video Hook & Demo, use create_content_upload_url, not a clip-upload path selected because both tools contain the word video.
The content upload response includes a key, a signed upload URL, the expected content type, expiration and maximum byte count. Current documentation describes a 30-minute URL for supported MP4, MOV or WebM recordings, with a maximum of 100 MB. A demo can be up to 60 seconds; an optional own hook can be up to 15 seconds.
Those limits describe valid inputs, not an instruction to use the longest possible recording. The focused demo-recording guide helps prepare a short action that remains readable.
Transfer bytes, not the path string
Use an HTTP-capable client to PUT the file to the returned URL. The content type must match the one signed into the upload request. Treat the URL as a temporary capability: do not paste it into a public issue, documentation example or a screenshot of your configuration.
A conceptual handoff looks like this:
request a content upload URL for the file's real content type
retain the returned key and expiry
PUT the file bytes with the required Content-Type
check the actual upload response
use the returned key as demoVideoKey
This is a sequence, not a runnable SDK example. Your chat client may not support the file-transfer step directly. In that case, use the dashboard upload or an appropriate local HTTP tool rather than claiming that mentioning the file completed the transfer.
An accepted upload request also does not prove the recording will pass media validation. Prolifik checks the stored object's size, video content and duration before a content job uses it.
Diagnose the boundary that failed
| Symptom | First useful check |
|---|---|
| Upload URL rejected | Expiry, exact URL and required header |
| Job cannot find recording | Whether the PUT actually completed and the correct key was retained |
| Recording rejected | Actual file type, size, duration and presence of a video stream |
| Local path appears in job input | Replace it with the owned returned media key |
| Client cannot send bytes | Use a supported upload method instead of another natural-language promise |
Do not keep creating new jobs while the upload remains unresolved. Fixing the source boundary first avoids spending time investigating a render that never received valid footage.
If the recording is too large, use a controlled encode and inspect its labels. Do not keep only a heavily compressed copy; preserve the original source for later edits.
Create the right format and keep the audio constraint
For Hook & Demo, the content format identifier is talking-head, and the product recording goes in demoVideoKey. An optional hookVideoKey identifies your own eligible hook recording; otherwise the workflow uses library hooks.
The resulting piece places a hook before your demonstration and adds overlaid copy. The recording's original audio is replaced by library music, or silence with the appropriate none setting. A spoken tutorial that must retain its original narration needs a different treatment.
Use download delivery for a review draft and keep the job identifier. Uploading a recording, creating a render and authorizing public posting are separate decisions. Neither of the first two is evidence that a social post exists.
Inspect the returned video against the source
Confirm the result uses the intended task recording, not a similarly named older version. Check that the overlay describes the action on screen, that the important labels remain readable and that the hook does not promise a feature the footage never shows.
For the exact tool contract, consult the Prolifik MCP guide. Once the source and explanation agree, build the Video Hook & Demo piece and review the finished file before choosing a public destination.
Turn the uploaded recording into a review draft
Keep the owned media key, confirm its recording limits and use it in the Hook & Demo request without authorizing a public post.
