Link a Product Short to the Full Demo with YouTube Related Video

Connect a product Short to its full demonstration using YouTube’s native Related Video feature, with the correct channel, eligibility and viewer promise.

The full demonstration should continue the short’s promise.

A product Short can answer one question and point to a fuller demonstration. YouTube's Related Video feature makes that handoff visible in the Shorts player, but the linked video must continue the promise the Short actually made.

Do not treat the link as an excuse to withhold the answer. Give the short-form viewer one useful result. Use the longer video for the setup, conditions or adjacent steps that genuinely require more room.

This guide covers that editorial handoff and the native YouTube setup. It does not assume a scheduler can configure the Related Video field automatically.

Choose the full demonstration before cutting the Short

The illustrative example is a fictional project app called TaskHarbor. Its full recording shows a user importing a task list, assigning owners and reviewing an import warning.

The short version focuses on the warning: a missing owner does not disappear silently. The user can see the flagged row and decide what to fix.

That Short should lead to the import demonstration, not a general company introduction or an unrelated launch trailer. A viewer interested in the warning needs the surrounding import procedure.

Short's promise Suitable destination Poor destination
See a missing-owner warning Full import walkthrough Founder origin story
Learn the first assignment step Onboarding demonstration Broad product sizzle reel
Understand one permission choice Current permissions tutorial Old version with a different dialog

Check the destination first. A good short-to-long bridge cannot repair a tutorial that is outdated, inaccessible or unrelated.

Keep the Short useful on its own

A possible TaskHarbor cut begins with the flagged row, shows the owner selection, then shows the warning resolved. The on-screen line can say, “Check the flagged row before finishing the import.”

The ending can offer the fuller context: “The full demo includes the file setup and import review.” That tells viewers why they might continue. It does not imply that the short has hidden a required final step.

Avoid a fake cliffhanger immediately before the result. Someone who never opens the full video should still understand the one action they watched. For choosing that complete unit, use the product walkthrough clipping guide.

Keep the destination's language, product version and audience in mind. A beginner-oriented Short should not unexpectedly send a viewer to an advanced administration recording with no explanation of the prerequisites.

Set the native link after upload

YouTube's current help documentation describes adding a Related Video in YouTube Studio after selecting the uploaded Short. The feature requires advanced feature access. The selected video must belong to your channel, be public or unlisted, and follow YouTube's Community Guidelines.

Use the actual Studio interface for the final choice and save it. Then inspect the Short as a viewer. YouTube describes the resulting clickable link below the channel handle in the Shorts player.

A URL typed into a description is not the same interface element. Do not report the Related Video setup complete just because a post caption contains a link. Check the player-level destination.

If the option is unavailable, record that limitation and use an honest alternative. Do not promise a feature the account cannot currently access or try to bypass its eligibility rules.

Keep generation, upload and linking as separate states

There are at least three independent outcomes:

  1. A finished short file exists.
  2. The intended Short is uploaded to the right channel.
  3. Its Related Video points to the intended full demonstration.

Completing the first does not prove the second or third. A scheduled upload needs a later verification too, especially if the native setting can only be completed after the content appears in Studio.

Prolifik's Video to Shorts workflow can help produce candidates from a recording. Review the actual clip and channel destination, then perform and verify the native Related Video step where available. This guide does not claim Prolifik's publishing tools set that field.

If several people share the work, put the Short title, full-demo title and expected link into the handoff note. A bare instruction to “link the long video” is easy to misapply when several versions exist.

Review both ends after publication

Open the published Short and follow its related link. Confirm that the destination opens the intended current video, not a duplicate test upload. Watch its opening long enough to understand whether the viewer will recognize the promised task.

Check the content too. If the full tutorial has since changed, the original bridge may no longer be accurate. Keep a simple record of which short points to which demonstration so a product update does not leave stale links behind.

Measurement is a later question. A clickable handoff is not proof that it produced signups or that the Short caused a viewer's subsequent behavior. Start with the verified path, then use the platform's available reporting without inventing attribution. Our repurposed-content measurement guide covers that boundary.

Start with the recording that carries the explanation

Create candidate clips and check their context before connecting them to a full demonstration.
